Kandy to Ella by train

Ella is high up in the hills of Sri Lanka and blanketed in tea plantations. The train to Ella is rated as one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. I tried to get tickets a few days ago but all reserved tickets have been sold out for about 3 weeks. I was informed that if I turned up on the day I would get a ticket. The train was at 8:45 so I got to the station for 7:30am. There was already a queue of about 20 people (all foreigners) in front of me. I picked up a 2nd class ticket for 240R/£1.20 which is pretty cheap since the train ride is about 6-7hrs long. Queue to buy tickets As the time got closer to departure, more and more people started showing up on the platform. It was getting pretty busy. By the time the train arrived it was everyone for themselves. It was like rush hour on the Central Line but everyone had luggage. It was mayhem. Kandy

My Cultural Triangle trip has turned more into a Cultural Point. I have decided I'm not really into ancient ruins/ sites. I've seen too many over the years and I just want to relax rather than traipse around looking at old stuff. So I am outta here and heading to Kandy, the second largest city. Took a bus. I learnt my lesson last time and flagged down a a/c bus. Costs more but I just can't deal with the local buses. When I got on, all the Sri Lankan moved and made me sit in the front seat behind the driver. I am kind of glad I wasn't at the back as I get terrible motion sickness and the roads were really windy. However, with this I get to see exactly what the driver is doing and Oh my Buddah, I swear my heart nearly popped out of my chest with the insane driving and overtaking. Airport

After the most stressful journey to the airport on the bus, I was dropped off 1km away and had to hoike my arse to the terminal in the blazing hot sun. I am now in air conditioning eating Burger King. Good bye Sri Lanka. It was awesome!! Crazy, horn beeping bus driver Sweating on the way to the terminal with all my stuff
